Range information

Gaja Research range is headquartered in Gaja, Jeolikote at an elevation of 1250m above mean sea level near Nainital Road NH 109. It was established under Silviculturist Hill Division as a research unit in the year 1962 and was later upgraded to an independent Range. The hill area of Nainital district with vegetation from Subtropical deciduous dry and moist forests to Temperate forests are covered by the range. Owing to steep altitudinal gradient, high annual rainfall and varied climate zones, Nainital district is highly rich in biodiversity. The primary goal of Gaja Research range is to document and conserve various aspects of this biodiversity.
